Space technology startup X-Bow Systems secured $70 million in Series B funding to expand production capabilities for its solid rocket motors and complete its new Texas manufacturing facility. Microsoft leads $40 million funding for Starlink networking startup

Although likely delayed after the recent Falcon 9 second stage engine failure, Jared Isaacman’s Polaris Dawn, the first commercial spacewalk mission, is scheduled to launch no earlier than July 31st on a SpaceX Dragon capsule. University of Michigan professor Christopher Limbach and Stanford professor Ken Hara are working on PROCSIMA, a coherent combined particle and laser beamed propulsion that eliminates diffraction issues. They estimate a 5 gram probe similar to the one proposed by the Breakthrough Initiatives project could accelerate to 10% of the speed of light, reaching Proxima b in 43 years.

JWST has found an icy planet that may support life beyond Earth orbiting a faint red dwarf star 48 light-years away. Université of Montréal astronomers analyzed LHS 1140 b and propose that it could be veiled by an atmosphere. Assuming an atmosphere similar to Earth’s, models suggest a vast ocean directly facing its star.
