Earth-observation startup emerges from stealth with $12 million

Matter Intelligence, a Los Angeles-based startup, launched with $12 million in funding to develop an Earth observation sensor suite combining a high-resolution camera, thermal sensor, and spectrometer for use on satellites, drones and aircraft. Co-founded by Vishnu Sridhar, formerly of NASA’s Mars Perseverance Rover’s SuperCam team, Matter aims to support AI models capable of use cases such as detailed surface mapping and detection of emissions. Lowercarbon Capital led the seed round, joined by Toyota Ventures, Pear VC, Mark Cuban, and E2MC.
