Isar Aerospace raises 150 million euros

The funding will go toward expanding launch capabilities and production facilities for small launch vehicle Spectrum as a leading candidate for the European Space Agency’s European Launcher Challenge.

Mach Industries, founded in 2023 by MIT dropout Ethan Thornton, announced a $100 million round led by Khosla Ventures and Bedrock Capital, with participation from Sequoia. The current valuation increased to $470 million from $335 million in October 2023 after two prior funding rounds. Mach has developed a super light jet-powered VTOL unmanned aerial vehicle Viper, a high-altitude long-range glider plane Glide, and a communications and sensor-equipped in-air satellite Stratos.

California-based startup Logos Space Services raised $50 million in Series A funding from Thomas Tull's US Innovative Technologies to deploy its first of more than 4,000 LEO broadband satellites by late 2027. Logos, founded by a former Google executive, emerged from stealth in October.

French SSA company Look Up raises 50 million euros

French space situational awareness company Look Up raised ~€50 million ($57.6 million) through a combination of equity, loans and a European Union grant to further develop their space object tracking radar network. The Series A round was led by ETF Partners. Look Up is also working on a related space operations service for coordinated space traffic management.

Denver-based Lux Aeterna raised $4 million in pre-seed funding led by Space Capital with participation from Dynamo Ventures, Mission One Capital and others, to develop its reusable satellite Delphi, slated for test launch and landing in 2027. Ex-SpaceX founder and CEO Brian Taylor thinks the extra space available on heavy-lift rockets will enable satellites that can be built to survive multiple re-entries.

Aetherflux's solution uses fiber lasers to precisely target energy at receivers on the ground. The aerospace industry has largely dismissed this concept, but Aetherflux sees applications for national defense, beaming power to forward bases without transporting fuel, then later for baseload renewable energy. Aetherflux aims to launch a demonstration satellite in June 2026.

Honda completed a successful reusable rocket test flight demonstrating vertical takeoff and landing technology - the first outside of the US and China - ascending to 890 feet (271 m) and surviving a 56-second flight. Honda is targeting a suborbital launch by 2029.

The Vera C. Rubin Observatory in Chile, with the largest digital camera ever built (3.2 gigapixels), released its first batch of images to the public on June 23. Its decade-long Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST) will image the entire southern sky every few nights, mapping billions of celestial objects and providing critical data for dark matter observations and planetary defense.
