Robotically Manipulated Payload Challenge

NASA Flight Opportunities is inviting applicants to propose payloads that can be manipulated by a robotic arm in low Earth orbit, to advance persistent infrastructure for in-space servicing, assembly, and manufacturing. Up to three winners will each receive up to $500,000 to develop a flight-ready payload and demonstrate it in orbit in early 2028. A virtual information session is available on June 18. Phase 1 deadline August 12, 2026.

Rocket engine startup Impulse Space raised $500 million in a Series D round led by 137 Ventures and BANNER VC, with participation from Founders Fund, Lux Capital and Linse Capital. Founded by SpaceX veteran Tom Mueller, the company focuses on in-space mobility platforms such as its highly maneuverable Mira spacecraft and Helios orbit-transfer vehicle. The new capital will be used to expand its engineering workforce by up to 200 employees. Impulse is also preparing a new Mira mission slated for launch before the end of 2026.

Space Markets, founded in December and newly out of stealth, is introducing futures trading and prediction markets for the space economy, allowing investors to trade orbital resources such as satellite bandwidth, launch capacity, Earth observation data and space-based energy. The company announced an investment from Coinbase Ventures for an undisclosed amount to build a decentralized platform on Base, Coinbase’s Ethereum Layer-2 network.
