Defense-manufacturing startup Hadrian raised $1.37 billion, increasing its valuation to nearly $8 billion, a roughly fivefold increase over its prior valuation. Lead investors in the round include WCM Investment Management, Washington Harbour Partners, Valor Equity Partners, 137 Ventures, and Baillie Gifford, with participation from Andreessen Horowitz, Founders Fund, Lux Capital, and others. The new capital will go towards scaling the company's workforce, expanding its proprietary Opus software platform, and building out automated manufacturing facilities to address persistent supply chain bottlenecks facing the US defense-industrial base.

BlackStar Orbital Takes SPAC Deal

Portuguese space traffic management company Neuraspace secured €15.6 million in funding to expand its Space Domain Awareness (SDA) and space sustainability platforms. The round was led by Armilar Venture Partners, with participation from investors including Bright Pixel Capital and Faber. The capital will be used to accelerate development of AI-powered software that will monitor orbital debris, assess collision risks, and automate maneuver planning for satellite operators.

Auckland-founded space startup Outlier Space raised $10.5 million (NZ$10.5M) in a pre-seed round led by New Zealand VC GD1 with additional backers including Australian VCs Airtree, Side Stage Ventures and Investible. Funds will support engineering, testing, regulatory approvals, and mission pre-sales for their re-entry satellite capsules designed to act as in-orbit production chambers. The company aims to launch its first operational mission into space by mid-2028.

Phase I of NASA's Moon Base runs through 2029 and encompasses over 20 robotic landings to incrementally test technologies, gather environmental data, and deploy foundational surface infrastructure via NASA's Commercial Lunar Payload Services initiative before astronauts arrive. HALO (Habitation and Logistics Outpost) module hardware is being repurposed into surface-based power and avionics demonstrations while commercial partners Blue Origin, Intuitive Machines, Voyager Technologies, and Firefly Aerospace are advancing cargo landers Blue Moon MK1, IM-3 / Trinity, Griffin-1 and Blue Ghost Mission 2, respectively.

Engineers race to save stricken LINK rescue spacecraft before it's too late

Engineers are attempting to stabilize Katalyst Space Technologies' servicing spacecraft LINK, launched to rescue NASA's Swift telescope, which suffered a critical failure shortly after launch, causing it to lose orientation control. Engineers successfully reduced the craft's spin rate and LINK is getting flight software updates so it can begin maneuvers to align with Swift's orbit before the telescope's altitude degrades beyond recovery.

SpaceX and Tesla provided a rendering of Terafab, the massive semiconductor manufacturing facility designed to meet the chip supply demands of SpaceX and Tesla with support from Intel. The facility in Grimes County, Texas, will create at least 3,000 direct jobs and Musk says will be 50x the size of the Pentagon when complete. Phase 1 requires an estimated $16.8 billion in joint capital investment.

Scientists Release Biggest 2D Map of the Universe

Scientists at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory released the largest two-dimensional map of the universe ever produced, charting the positions of hundreds of millions of galaxies across the sky. The map was generated using data from the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) Legacy Imaging Surveys and provides an unprecedented wide-field view of large-scale cosmic structure. This dataset serves as a foundational resource for ongoing cosmological research, including studies of dark energy, dark matter distribution, and the expansion history of the universe.
